Home manufacturer aims to commercialize first hydrogen house in summer
2025 / Sekisui House
SEKISUI HOUSE. LTD. (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture;
Yoshihiro Nakai, President and CEO) will be the first housing manufacturer
to begin demonstration experiments at the company's General Housing Research
Institute in June, with the aim of commercializing hydrogen homes in the
summer of 2025. . Create hydrogen at home using renewable energy generated
by solar power, making your home self-sufficient in electricity. Excess
electricity from solar power generation is used to electrolyze water to
create hydrogen, which is then stored in a hydrogen-absorbing alloy tank.
When there is insufficient sunlight or at night, the stored hydrogen is
used to generate electricity using fuel cells. Due to the current state
of development and construction of infrastructure and supply chains both
domestically and internationally, it is said that hydrogen will not be
delivered to each residential unit until 2050 or later. The company will
verify stable and independent operation with a view to home use environments,
and identify issues for commercialization.
